Ray retired in February 2026 as Director of AI Research and Innovation at a global safety science company, after more than thirty years building real-world AI systems. In recent years he led enterprise AI governance and policy. He is now writing his first novel, a work of literary speculative fiction.
Ray received the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering’s Distinguished Young Alumni award in 2009.
